Pip Points Explained

Quick Summary

Information about pip points explained to help you understand your entitlement, manage your claim, and challenge wrong decisions.

PIP Points Explained: How Your Award is Calculated

The Personal Independence Payment (PIP) is a points-based benefit. To receive a payment, you must score a minimum number of points across several activities. Understanding how these points are awarded — and where the thresholds lie — is essential for any claimant in 2026.

The Points Thresholds

  • Daily Living: 8 points for Standard (£72.65/week), 12 points for Enhanced (£108.55/week).
  • Mobility: 8 points for Standard (£28.70/week), 12 points for Enhanced (£75.75/week).

How Points are Allocated

Points are not awarded for your diagnosis. They are awarded for your inability to perform 10 Daily Living activities and 2 Mobility activities. For example, if you need an aid to wash yourself, you score 2 points. If you cannot follow a journey due to psychological distress, you could score 12 points. Our guide provides a full breakdown of every descriptor and its points value to help you estimate your own award.
